Whether used on fence boards or a wood post, a staple will hold a wire in place, and prevent it from excessively sagging.
It is important to leave staples somewhat loose, since the wire fencing will shrink, expand or move around a bit due to temperature changes, weight loads, animal impacts, tension adjustments, or other circumstances.
